How to analyze a PUBG match in a 2D replay

A final placement tells you where the match ended. A 2D replay helps you locate the decision that changed your options. Use one question, one timeline and the positions the match actually recorded.

Start with the question

Open a recent match by player name, match ID or telemetry file. Focus your squad in the standings, then choose one question before scrubbing: Did we leave the drop too late? Was our first fight isolated? Could we have reached the next safe area together? A narrow question makes the replay useful; a full-match watch often turns into a highlight reel.

Read the timeline in four passes

The map and timeline share a playhead. Each pass adds context to the same moment rather than forcing you to remember the whole match.

  1. Landing: use the plane path and landing markers to see your squad and nearby teams. The landing heatmap describes this match, not a typical lobby.
  2. Circle reveal: pause when the next safe area appears. Check your positions, vehicle state and the time remaining before blue starts to close.
  3. First damage: jump to the first contact marker and rewind a few seconds. Follow the positions into the knock, revive or elimination rather than reading only the kill feed.
  4. Decision: pause before the move that changed your options. Compare the available routes and teammates' separation, then write a timestamped team note.

A good review ends with one testable change: a new departure time, a tighter landing spread or a clearer trigger to disengage.
