How to watch CS2 demos

Find the .dem file, then open it here. Nothing to install.

A Counter-Strike 2 demo is a .dem file: a recording of everything the server sent during a match. The game can play it back from inside CS2. This viewer reads the same file in your browser and draws every round on a top-down radar, which is the quickest way to see what both teams did.

Matchmaking demos (Premier and Competitive)

  1. Start Counter-Strike 2 and open Watch from the main menu, then Your Matches.
  2. Pick a match and download its demo. Valve keeps these for recent matches only, so download the ones you care about soon.
  3. The game saves the file in its replays folder. With a default Steam install on Windows that is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\game\csgo\replays. If your Steam library is elsewhere, look for Counter-Strike Global Offensive/game/csgo/replays inside it.

FACEIT demos

Open the match room on faceit.com and use its demo download button. The download can arrive compressed; extract it first so that you have a plain .dem file. FACEIT demos are large (a full match is often several hundred megabytes), which this viewer handles: it reads the file in slices and opens the replay as soon as the first round is parsed.

Pro match demos from HLTV

HLTV match pages link a demo download for professional games. It comes as an archive (.rar or .zip) with one .dem per map played. Extract the archive, then open the map you want.

What you see in the viewer

Your demo stays on your machine

The parser is compiled to WebAssembly and runs in your browser, so the demo file is never uploaded. When parsing finishes, only the match data the viewer needs (positions, kills, utility, buys) is saved to give the replay a link you can share.

Supported maps

Ancient, Anubis, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage, Nuke, Overpass, Train and Vertigo. Nuke, Train and Vertigo have more than one level; the viewer draws them on the upper-level radar.
